Testing Accommodations FAQ
- Initiating the testing accommodation procedure is the responsibility of the student.
- Testing accommodations may include extended time, scribe, computer for written exams, use of a spell-checking device, calculator, readers, and accessible test formats such as Braille and enlarged print.
- A student who misses a test or exam scheduled with OARS will be required to notify the faculty member.
- OARS is not able to reschedule exams. Rescheduling of exams is the responsibility of, and should be initiated by, the student in consultation with the faculty member, and a faculty member must approve the rescheduling.
- A student who is late for a scheduled exam must finish the test in the time remaining (extended time will be calculated from the scheduled time of the test, not the time of arrival).
- Final exams will only be rescheduled in accordance with university policy.
- Students may schedule their testing appointments in the UPL or OARS, via The TracCloud platform
- For detailed instructions for scheduling a test, please visit The University Proctoring Lab.

Accommodations Beyond UNCG – transfers, licensure, certification, GRE, MAT, Praxis, LSAT, NCLEX, etc.
No. Accommodations approved through the Office of Accessibility Resources and Services (OARS) at UNCG apply only within the university setting. Licensing boards, certification bodies, and standardized testing agencies make their own independent decisions regarding accommodations.
External entities establish their own eligibility criteria, documentation requirements, and review process. As a result, their decisions may differ while still remaining compliant with applicable laws.
No. Approval of accommodations at UNCG does not guarantee approval by external organizations. Each entity establishes its own eligibility criteria, documentation requirements, and review process.
We strongly encourage you to:
- Review the testing agency or licensing board’s accommodation requirements as early as possible
- Ensure your documentation meets their specific criteria
- Contact the agency directly with questions about their process and timelines
- Plan ahead, as approval processes may take several weeks or longer
Yes. While OARS cannot determine accommodations for external entities, we can:
- Help you understand differences in accommodation processes
- Review general documentation expectations
- Discuss strategies for navigating the request process
Students in programs leading to licensure should be especially mindful that accommodation decisions for credentialing exams may be more limited or require more extensive documentation than those provided in the academic setting. Early planning can help ensure a smoother transition.
